The end of another summer month is about to descend upon us and I’m finding it hard to believe that four weeks have passed by so quickly. The weather has been perfect most days, friends have visited frequently, a variety of birds have enjoyed our feeders, and chapel ministry has been outstanding. So, thus far, it’s been a wonderful time at our ‘home away from home’ here at Muskoka Bible Centre.
Even though this last week has seen me ‘down-and-out’ for several days, I still have a tiny bit of ‘get-up-and-go’ to be faithful to my personal commitment of posting a monthly blog. And there is a reason for that!
This month has seen me pass the ten-year milestone of blogging. When my son-in-law set up my web page in the spring of 2012, I determined to be faithful in sharing the various aspects of living life, both personally and professionally, and sometimes I dared to be political. I began with much enthusiasm to post 5 blogs a month! The number fluctuated between three and five posts until June the following year when I resigned myself to a monthly post. Since then I have yet to miss a month, although I have come very close several times, so kudos to me! Nevertheless, I won’t be long-winded this month given the nature of how I’m feeling these days, but I just wanted to take a moment and share something that’s on my heart, and I can’t help wondering if it’s on the hearts of fellow Christians.
A good friend of mine heard me say rather loosely, “It is what it is” and commented that he didn’t care much for that expression. I smiled at his response but gave it little thought until I heard a line in a movie that brought that expression full circle: “Just because it is, doesn’t mean it’s right.”
These days there are many political actions that may cause one to stop and think, “Just because it is, doesn’t mean it’s right.” However, there’s one that’s been floating around in my head while I have been ‘down-and-out’ these past days: Just because the law in our country says it’s okay to kill the unborn, doesn’t mean it’s right! With the recent news in the USA regarding the reversal of the 1973 Roe vs. Wade abortion decision, individual states may again outlaw abortion. That in itself is a reason to rejoice. The news account went on to say that the “court’s conservative majority said the Constitution does not protect the right to abortion, instead leaving the decision in the hands of state lawmakers.” While some states have outlawed all abortions entirely, sadly some states have already passed legislation to protect reproductive freedoms.
“Just because it is, doesn’t mean it’s right.”
But what about in our own country? Canada is the only democracy in the world with no legal protection for pre-born children. Did you know that Section 223 of the Criminal Code states that a child only becomes a human being, “when it has completely proceeded, in a living state, from the body of its mother, whether or not it has breathed [or]…has an independent circulation, or the navel string is severed”? I believe that the implication is clear: post-viability abortions are permitted, that is, after 20 weeks gestation, since the unborn baby is not considered human until completely born. Equally disturbing is the fact that abortion is treated like any other medical procedure and is governed by provincial and medical regulations.
Our country leaders continue to allow abortion at any stage of pregnancy, for any reason, with the leader of our nation regarding abortion as a “right” and an integral part of feminism. As a result, rejecting abortion, according to our leader, is equivalent to “hating” women.
“Just because it is, doesn’t mean it’s right.”
The Bible puts a twist on this thought: “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them” (James 4:17). And again, “‘I have the right to do anything,’” you say—but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’—but not everything is constructive” (1 Corinthians 10:23).
Shame on those who have ignored or, worse, deliberately chosen to twist the law to suit their own means, beliefs, and benefits. Our present culture demands instantaneous satisfaction, convenience, and materialism, and through its denial of a Supreme Being, it has ignored what God clearly tells us in His Word:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139:13-16
Failure to acknowledge God and His Word will have grave consequences on our nation. “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31).

Couldn’t agree more!!! Thanks for sharing that. My heart has ached for years regarding our countrys’ barbaric ways. Hard to be proud of such a nation. They don’t know the preciousness of these babies.God help them
Thanks, Laura. It’s a distressing topic. It would seem that our government has the power to make the changes needed to protect our future children but chooses not to. And when I say “power” I am speaking from a human perspective. We both know God has the final say and has ALL the power to bring change. Appreciate your input!
This has been heavy on my heart for years – thanks for your words that have been my thoughts all of those years also. Lord I pray for the conversion of Justin Trudeau and all who believe that the taking of a life of an unborn baby is the thing to do.
Lorie, I so appreciate your words and prayers. We can only trust God to move in our Prime Minister’s heart and help him realize how lost he is and the role he is playing in leading our nation further and further from God.
Our God didn’t create man to make laws contradicting his Word. We are so thankful that You are in charge of this world and You only let man go so far. We give You, LORD all the glory and thank You for the mighty God You are. In charge of everything. Thanks for sharing Ruth.
Thanks, Hon! I love your opening statement. It sums up all that I’ve tried to say. We were created to worship God, not to live our lives contrary to His will. Love seeing your name on my blog:)
